Indonesian-inspired Beef Fried Rice

  • Ground Beef
  • Sambal Oelek
  • Brown Rice
  • Liquid Egg
  • Garlic Clove(s)
  • Fresh Chili Pepper
  • Tomato(es)
  • Bok Choy Bonsai
  • Green Onion(s)
  • Lebanese Cucumber(s)
  • Yellow Onion(s)
  • Soy Sauce

Pot, strainer, pan, bowl.

1. Place the rice in a pot with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil. Cook 18-22 minutes until tender. Drain.

2. Caution spicy pepper! If you have sensitive skin, use gloves to handle the ingredient. Remove the seeds for a milder taste. Chop the garlic, the chili pepper, the onion and the green onions. Cut the tomato into quarters. Slice the cucumbers. Cut the bok choy into pieces.

3. In a pan over medium-high heat, add a drizzle of olive oil. Cook the beef 4-5 minutes. Add the onions, the garlic and the bok choys. Cook for another 2-3 minutes. Push everything to one side of the pan to leave enough space to add the eggs. Add the eggs and cook for 1-2 minutes. Mix everything together.

4. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, with the sambal oelek, to taste (caution! Spicy) and 1 tbsp of sugar. It’s possible to reserve the sambal oelek for serving.

5. In the same pan as the beef, add the rice and the sauce. Mix well.

6. Serve the nasi goreng fried rice with beef. Garnish with cucumbers, the tomatoes, the green onions and the chili peppers, to taste (caution! spicy). Bon appétit!
